A lot of candles use botanical names — "sage," "lavender fields," "herbal garden" — without actually being herbal in any meaningful way. Here's what separates a genuinely herbal affirmation candle from a synthetic one wearing the same label.
Wax Base
Paraffin (a petroleum byproduct) is the default in most mass-market candles because it's cheap and holds synthetic fragrance oils well. Soy wax, like ours, is plant-derived and burns cooler and cleaner — it lets true botanical notes come through instead of masking them.

Fragrance Sourcing
"Herbal" fragrance oils can still be entirely synthetic. The tell is usually in the burn: synthetic-heavy candles often smell stronger unlit than lit, and can leave soot or a chemical edge. A well-made soy candle's scent should feel consistent whether it's burning or sitting on a shelf.
The Wick and the Burn
Cotton wicks paired with soy wax burn slower and cleaner — 50–60 hours in our Grateful Soy Candle — versus the faster, sootier burn common with paraffin blends.

Why It Matters for a Ritual
If you're lighting a candle daily as part of a gratitude or affirmation practice, what you're breathing in matters over time. Choosing a genuinely herbal, soy-based option keeps the ritual clean, not just aesthetically "herbal."
Check the wax and wick before the scent name — that's where the real difference lives.
